an aldridge life

When I was living in Uk I used to spend loads of time with my boyfriend’s auntie, Kate. I have met her in 2006 when I was visiting his city for the first time and since then we became best friends. A best friend who is some years older than me, by the way. She is one of the most important people of my life and in her companion I have learnt some much about everything.

She lives in Aldridge , a borough of Walsall. Her beautiful semi-detached house is still the same one she was born in and it has a gorgeous garden in the backyard which i believe is her mainly passion.

I was Lucky enough to share some other passions of auntie Kate such as travelling and talk about her family’s history research. I feel pretty much comfortable when I am with her in Uk because she is polite, funny and kind and auntie Kate knows how to enjoy her life. She is always travelling with her friends and when she has time, she invites me to travel with her around the Midlands.

We also shared some [half] pints of carling and meals at one of my favourite pubs, the White House and I always had so much fun with her stories about life in UK.

a pub moment together

One of this stories was published recently in a book called Childhood in forties Aldridge and everything I was curious about a typical english life was written there with so much enthusiasm and passion that I had finished reading the book in some couple of hours.I wish everyone of you could have the opportunity of read it. She is a talented writter and I would like to read everything she writes from now to go.

Not to mention that my curiosity about english way of life was pretty much fulfilled when I read her words. As well as I could learnt all about my boyfriend’s life without bore him to death about it all! hehe.

I pretty much loved the Idea of understand how english kids used to play or behave at school. AS she grew up during the World War II I also could know for example that one of her brothers were in Palestine doing national service and when he came back from this work he broght back some delicious gifts such as turkish delights.

Something that it is really appreciated in England and that I had the opportunity of try once :O) Delicious!

The weather in 40's was another interesting issue as well. It was obvious that England was pretty much colder than nowadays and in her words the wwinter used to be so deep that it was necessary to take a bath in front of the fireplace. The same fireplace where we had our tea [ in my case, coffee] and chats this year.

Not just for it, but especially because it that I am here to shere with you a bit of this person's life. she is full of life and I am grateful for learning more and more with here, every single meet we have.

not a brummie life, for a while

If you read my twitter [@moluska] you already know I am not in Birmingham since last sunday. I had to leave the city and country for a while until I get a new visa here, in Brazil.

It doesn't mean I am going to stop writing about my 8 months of great experiences in Brum. So stay tune. :O)

I feel more than inspired to write in english and portuguese. Even more after reading a beautiful blog, the words of my friend Malu. If you understand a bit of portugues and would like to know more about a incredible person and write, go for it.I do recommend it!

By the way, it reminds myself some weeks ago reading a book about creative writing because one of my dreams is to be able [someday] to write something in English and as a way of practice my English skills I have started this blog. Some weeks ago I caught myself struggled with my own words, trying to understand why I was block. I had some much to say but never put it all on a paper. Or even here.

Malu is an example of how things has to be done! That is the reason than from now to go I am gonna be here posting every week. No excuses!
